Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s textile heritage brings together handloom cloth, ornamental mat weaving and lace-making, with distinct traditions shaped by place and use.
The island’s Kandyan textile and dress heritage provides one point of discovery. Dumbara Ratā Kalāla, woven from hana plant fibres and decorated with symbolic motifs, belongs to its home and interior craft traditions. Beeralu lace adds another expression through the work of bobbin-lace makers along the southern coast. This chapter welcomes makers and labels working with these traditions and contemporary design.
