Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s textile landscape brings fine cotton weaving and embroidered cloth into close conversation. Dhaka’s muslin is remembered for its exceptional fineness; Jamdani carries floral and geometric motifs created directly on the loom.

The traditional art of Jamdani weaving was inscribed by UNESCO in 2013. Kantha and Nakshi Kantha bring running-stitch embroidery to Bengal’s cloth, while Tangail carries its own handloom heritage. This chapter welcomes the weavers, textile houses and designers carrying these traditions forward.
